statement
It's daydreaming that started me drawing and I think my visual experience still has that feeling to it.
It's a juvenile sense of creative thought. It's narrative, it's fun and it's whimsical in process and appearance.
about the artist
CLARICE JONES was born in New Jersey. She began drawing silly sketches in the gutters of her homework, graduated to
silly sketches in her college sketchbooks, and is now working on making her silly sketches into a profession.
She grew up in an artistic family, gained an early love for sketching, went to art museums and painted with
praise from her teachers and her aunt (fellow artist, Nadīne LaFond) It wasn't until just before junior high school
that she took her first true "fine art" class, which really rocketed her interest. She went to a public highschool
where art didn't usually get very fancy but powered by local artist, Trisha Dufford, a whole new fascination with the
strange new world of art began to open up.
And so, spiritedly ignoring the possibility of being poor for the rest of her life, she decided she must LEARN MORE.
Just to make sure this was really the path (of destruction) she wanted, Clarice visited pre-college at the University
of the Arts in Philadelphia. It was here that she was convinced to drop her closet-stuffed life of highschool
nerdities and embrace a passionate love affair with art (and of Philly) This joy of art making needed to happen all
the time and it did.
To conclude, after escaping highschool (and thanks to an intriguing interview at a portfolio review in that city
of Philly she did so love) she jumped into the college boat and is currently a soon-to-be graduating student at Maryland Institute
College of the Arts studying Illustration, more importantly, LIFE and, in general, the fine art that she so loves;
the preferred of which still remains drawing meaningless doodles about meaningful things.
