‘Room To Grow’ speaks of how our connection to the Earth creates needed space within us to expand and better understand our role as an interdependent part of Nature and not merely as observers. The awakened being at the center mirrors and blends into her natural surroundings. Such connection and understanding have the capacity to teach compassion for the self, the lives around us and the planet that sustains us.
DETAILS
This linocut print is made up of 5 layers that I pull by hand. Each layer is a block that I carved and inked in contrasting colors, from soft hues in the background to thick richer tones in the foreground. The first layer is a field of golden light inside of which makes room for the second layer; the eye of Life (aka the third eye or pineal gland) with budding potentiality above ready to download into reality. The third layer represents the fully grown vegetation (we can also view this symbolically as the nourishment we grow from careful tending to ourselves) The fourth layer is a portal into the garden represented by two leaves overhead and the fifth layer is the being in full connection, mirroring a vibrant planet.
THEME
Connection: grounding to the Earth and practicing good stewardship inside and out.
NOTES:
The overall idea came to me during a meditation session. However, the initial spark happened back in 2018 when I first sketched a being that mirrors the Earth. Therefore, the first layer of this piece is that block I started carving then and reworked for this conversation. It took a few years but I FINALLY made it ♥
THEMES
The decision to set boundaries of rest, pause and healing; of mindfulness, being thoughtfully aware and recognizing the constructs of illusion; of connection, grounding to the Earth and practicing good stewardship inside and out; of nourishment, water, sunlight, stars and songs; of movement, dancing, stretching, climbing and building our strength; of wholeness, opting for joy in a system built on trauma; of choosing ourselves and celebrating our own beauty; of togetherness in the face of divisiveness; of empowerment, creating our own work, growing our own food, supporting our own communities; of breathing deeply and so much more, is crucial.
Collecting
Each print will be matted with 100% cotton museum quality board and shipped via 2 Day Priority Mail.
